The Stargood Players

One of our biggest hurdles in the “restoration” process was what to do about the soundtrack. The prints utilized magnetic sound-striping that had seriously deteriorated, most to the point of no return. What to do?

Enter a couple of gifted actors, Kate Konigisor and Patrick Riviere, both long-time friends. We asked if they might be interested in re-recording the missing dialog. Happily, they were, and they in turn enlisted the help of some other incredibly talented performers, the incomparable Michael Lewis and Anna Savant. With a cast like that, along with Larry Basinait, whose vocal stylings bore an uncanny resemblance to the original Captain Stargood, we knew we were in business. I think you’ll agree they captured the flavor and tone of the original tracks to perfection. I do not exaggerate when I say this project couldn’t have been undertaken without their work. We are eternally in their debt.

A Note on the Music:

Likewise to the vocals, the missing music of Captain Stargood needed to be addressed. We found it, in spades, in the work of Kevin MacLeod. His site, incompetech.com is a treasure trove of music, all written and performed by him in an incredible array of styles, and published under a creative commons license. Please visit his site, and if you’re in need of a soundtrack, I think you’ll find what you’re looking for there, and then some.

The Cast (in no particular order):

Kate Konigisor (Vera Buxley) has performed on stages all over the United States as well as abroad. Favorite roles include Emilia in Othello (opposite Austin Pendleton, West End Theatre), Shirley Valentine (Gretna Theatre), Germaine in Picasso at the Lapin Agile (TheatreVirginia), Gorgeous in The Sisters Rosensweig (Labyrinth Theatre), Eleanor in The Lion in Winter, Kate in Brighton Beach Memoirs and Broadway Bound (Surflight Theatre, and Katherine in The Taming of the Shrew and Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Shakespeare in Delaware Park). On television, look for her on Bravo as a recurring character in the new series, Sixx Design. Kate is an Associate Producer of Algonquin Productions in NYC. She never dreamed that directing high school theatre would lead to playing a character with such a huge bust, but working with Stargood creators Laird Ogden and Larry Basinait (back longer than any of them care to admit) allowed the guys to get their revenge in a chance to direct her as the inimitable Vera Buxley.

Anna Savant (Computer; Booterella) is a graduate of the New Actors Workshop. She has numerous credits with the Tokyo International Players where she played M’Lynn in Steel Magnolias, Mme de Volanges in Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Fruma-Sarah in Fiddler on the Roof, Ruth in Blithe Spirit and Hannah in California Suite. She has also performed in California and Munich.

Patrick Riviere (Jimmy the Cabin Boy, Dr. Einkopf) has been in the theatrical sandbox most of his life as a performer, playwright, director, producer, teacher and arts administrator. Patrick recently directed Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat for KJK productions and last summer was nominated as Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his role as Manos in Opa! part of the Midtown International Theatre Festival. Patrick has performed over 100 roles in theatre, film and television since he began performing at the age of ten. His work has earned him critical acclaim highlighted by performances as The Purser in the Broadway on the Boardwalk production of Anything Goes at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, Che in Evita at ArtPark, Stewpot in South Pacific at Candlewood and Snoopy in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown at ECST.
